Weston Travel

The Weston Basketball Association (WBA) sponsors Travel Basketball programs for boys and girls in grades 4-8. Students may tryout only for their grade appropriate team. 

Travel basketball is a competitive program. Competition begins with player evaluations as only a fixed number of players will be selected for each team. It is important to remember that participation on the prior year’s team does not guarantee selection in the current year.

All players and their parents are asked to make an extraordinary commitment to the travel teams, including attendance at all practices and games. Practices are generally twice a week on weeknights (for grades 5 through 8)  and there may be anywhere from 15 to 20+ games in the course of a season. If a player is unable to make the required commitment, he/she should not participate in tryouts potentially depriving another player who is willing to make the commitment to the team.

The WBA sponsors one team (sometimes two) for each grade, 5-8, for girls and boys. Teams consist of at least 9 players (FCBL requirement). More than 12 players on a team is not advisable because of the difficulties of allocating playing time in games. Ultimately, however, the number of players selected for each team is at the discretion of the WBA Board.

The coach of each team is selected by the WBA President, subject to the approval of the Board and in accordance with the WBA Bylaws. At the end of each season, players and parents have an opportunity to provide feedback about the team and the coach. That feedback receives significant consideration in making decisions for the next year. Team Managers are selected by the Coach after the team has been selected. No Coach, Manager, or Assistant Coach is ever assured that their child will be selected for the team.

Practices and home games will be held on the Weston schools campus.

The Weston Basketball Association is a volunteer-run non-profit organization established to promote the sport of basketball in Weston, CT as a positive component in the educational and athletic development of Weston's young student athletes. The WBA's primary responsibility is to administer, coordinate, and organize Weston's travel basketball teams for grades 4-8 boys and girls. Our teams compete in the Fairfield County Basketball League (www.fcblhoops.org). The WBA also offers clinics and camps throughout the year for grades 1-8 to encourage the early love of basketball.  We also collaborate with the Town of Weston & Recreation group (www.westonct.gov), which runs the basketball recreation program for Weston children in grades K-5.

Players that are accepted to the Travel Program must register and pay online prior to the first practice. It is the WBA's desire that the financial cost never prevent a player from participating. Parents of children with special circumstances should speak with a WBA Board Member. (See Contacts section for contact info.)
